Silva Map and Compass Courses

Do you get lost on walks regularly? Fed up with guide books that send you the wrong way? New to the outdoors and want to get it right from the outset?

Relax - you've come to the right place. The Silva Map and Compass weekends will teach you how to navigate effectively in a series of structured weekend courses set in the heart of the Peak National Park.

The weekends are sponsored by Silva, the makers of compasses and other navigational equipment, and supported by Country Walking magazine. We follow the syllabus of the National Navigation Award Scheme (NNAS), a structured way to learn navigation skills. The award is divided into 3 levels - Bronze, Silver and Gold. My aim is to ensure you have both an enjoyable and informative weekend.

I've been teaching people to navigate for over twenty years. I've also written numerous articles for Country Walking magazine over the years and two books on the subject. Both have become a popular choice for navigators of all standards. To hear a Podcast Interview I gave for the Cicerone website click here.

For further details of the courses and this year's dates plus other essential information click on the links to the left.

I look forward to helping you become an effective navigator.
